In the remote mountain villages of the Pyrenees, close to the border of Spain with France, passion runs high. Passion for life, for love and of course, for good times.

Juan Carlos was born and raised here before being lured to the coast by Barcelona. Then onward to Milan, to Paris, Brussels and eventually to London. His life experiences would sit comfortably in a movie by Pedro Almodovar.

Juan Carlos´ photographic pedigree is solid. Qualifications at IDEP in Barcelona and IED in Milan led to his working on fashion shoots for Vogue Italia, Vogue Uomo and Grazia. In Sydney, he augmented his experience at the renowned Australian Centre of Photography, where he was awarded 1st prize for his photograph: Aina.

 

​His passions for film, for fashion, for art history and for nature give him a unique, personal edge.

​

His style could be described as cinematographic. It is honest, open, often raw and always inspiring.

​

In 2017 Juan Carlos published his first book: I SEE YOU, a collection of portraits taken between the years 2000 to 2017 from his travels through Europe and Australia. This project was Highly Commended in the Australian Photography Magazine's 2018 Photographer of the Year competition and in the Capture Magazine's 2019 Australasia's Top Emerging Photographers

Later, five years spent living in Tokyo from 2018 inspired two award-winning bodies of work. First, in 2020 Souls of Japan won the national Nyu-Sen award at the 45th Exhibition of the Japan Professional Photographers Society.

His later work, In Praise of the Shadows has been honoured in Spain by being included in Photo España’s Descubrimientos 2024 and by being awarded as a 2024 finalist in the 9th Beca Fotogràfica Foto Torroella.

In mid 2022, having satisfied his wanderlust, Juan Carlos returned to the Val d'Aran, his hometown, where his photography and creativity continues to grow and evolve.
